Not too long ago I posted a rant that at one point mentioned me being a "card carrying member of The Grumpy Old Farts Club". I'm here to tell you that I think I'm now qualified for Gold Card status.

I cannot believe the silliness I run into on a daily basis!

One of the many silly things I encounter has to do with these emails. In an effort to put at least one moronic/stupid/ignorant/bassackwards (you get the idea) thing to rest, I present the following:

I offer apologies to those illiterate folks who cannot for the life of them figure out how to remove themselves from the mailing list. Apparently Hooked On Phonics did them no good and they feel their only recourse is to complain to the President of their shooting club, their ISP, their shooting buddies, and on rare occasion me. I'm fairly sure there are on each email 4 available links which when used properly will allow you to either confirm continued delivery, change where it goes, or unsubscribe. Unsubscribe means you wont get them anymore.

TDS does NOT buy email addresses, does NOT sell addresses, and tries to not send to folks that don't want to receive. The list is nothing more than email addresses and that makes it hard to cull, If you don't want to hear from TDS, get off my list!
How you got on is fairly simple - you bought something from us, expressed an interest in us, signed up for the list, or were given to us as someone who has an interest in what we do.
Getting off is real simple and has nothing to do with whining.

One of the many silly things I encounter has to do with these emails. In an effort to put at least one moronic/stupid/ignorant/bassackwards (you get the idea) thing to rest, I present the following:

First let me apologize to those folks who find these emails arriving in their mailboxes and cannot figure out who they are from. If I'm not mistaken the logo, link, return email address, and the like are clear and visible on each email sent out.
For the life of me I cannot comprehend why I get emails from people every couple weeks wanting to know who we are and why were sending them emails about gun related things. I haven't found one yet that when I plug their name into the who's ordered from TDS portion of the system doesn't come back as a customer. But then again they don't know who TDS is?!?
Once they figure out that they ordered from me before they then switch from "butt hurt" and want to ask me about this or that product as if that's what they got in touch with me for.

For the record, TDS has a SPAM rating of ZERO. Pretty damn good all things considering.
The TDS contact list is primarily built by folks joining it. Options to join are on the website, Facebook page, and on each email sent out.
The secondary method of getting on the list is the email addresses from orders are automatically transferred.
On rare occasion membership groups will provide contact information believing that the services and products offered will benefit their members. On rarer occasions, TDS will accept these contacts - more often than not we don't. In such a case their is a CONFIRM link right above the UNSUBSCRIBE link on each email.

Now I know that there is no such thing as a perfect system and occasionally I will look through the thousands of email addresses and see one that I actually recognize and wonder just how the hell it got into the list.
Every time I mail out there is an average of 10 unsubscribes and 50 new subscribers. Once a month we transfer the information from the ordering portion of the system and the list grows.
Everyday we see new subscribers from the sign up applications on the site and Facebook.

In closing, I know there was a perhaps a more professional manner in which to present this, but those who know me well, understand that I often prefer a more direct and base approach.
I apologize to those who this applies to, and sincerely hope that you can find someone to help you remove yourself from the offensive TDS list.

Hopefully this eliminates one silliness from my world - yeah right, and I believe in Santa Claus too............

Since I'm far better at finding product than I am at figuring out what people think and honestly I'm tired of trying to second guess where to focus effort - I ran a poll.

Question 6 explained it all - "So as you've probably gathered this survey is to determine how TDS will spend it's efforts letting customers know what's going on. How and where sale announcements will be posted, cool stuff, new items and the like. We can post till the end of time but it's in the wrong place it's pointless."

More revealing than the numbers were the remarks left by respondents at the end of the survey. That will end up being a separate post once it gets "sanitized" a bit.......

Most folks are familiar with IMI (Israeli Military Industries) and the range of products and companies under their banner. Most of the products developed in conjunction with IMI have been spun off into companies like iTac Defense, FAB Defense, MAKO, CAA and a couple others. Honestly if you try to follow the flow of products and the companies it will make you dizzy - the Israelis don't work things like we do here, but the products still tend to be revolutionary designs or at least serious improvements on designs.
The one thing the Israelis have going for them is a 100% 24/7 readiness mentality. The mother of invention is necessity and IMI has long ago been adopted by this mother.

That said, we're all familiar with the Blackhawk Serpa holster. We're also familiar with its limitations and weak points. Be it the brittle nature of the plastic, jamming of the lock system, or the position of the finger during a draw leading to AD's, the Serpa is quickly being banned in training programs nationwide.

One of the biggest concerns Law Enforcement has when working hands on with folks is not the big stuff, its the small things like needles.

After SHOT

Thoughts

The crew from TDS made the annual trek to SHOT SHOW where divide and conquer was the order of the day. Meeting, greeting, browsing and deal making on an unprecedented scale is what SHOT is all about and given that this years show broke all records for not only attendance but exhibitors - its going to take weeks to sort through it all.

There are some immediate benefits to what we found, others will take a while to finalize, but all in all a very productive trip.

On a personal note it brought a smile to my face hearing from one of our guys that in every airport he had folks walking up to him saying they knew who TDS was or had purchased from us. I had folks telling me the same and several saying they liked my irreverent rants in the Comm Center and Facebook. Nice to know we have "friends" nationwide......

SHOT SHOW 2012

SHOT 2012 is about in the books and as in years past showcased new products from almost every manufacturer and distributor on the planet.

This year TDS made an expanded appearance with several folks prowling the floor decked out in TDS branded wear. Aside from the TDS presence, Area 7 shooters made their presence known. As in years past, the top shooters on the planet were front and center and every bit as much a draw as the products.

Rob Leatham, Todd Jarrett, Max Michael, JJ Racaza, Manny Bragg, Blake Miguez, Tori Nokata, Randy Rogers, Tad Davidson (TDS), Jay Hershberg, Jessie Harrison, Al Zitta, and many many more were easy to find doing demos or just hanging out.

Folks like Ted Nugent, Lou Ferigno, even Steven Tyler were likewise easy to spot.

2012 marked the first year that there weren’t nightly updates published in the TDS Comm center, favoring instead to post short blasts on the TDS Facebook page www.facebook.com/TacticalDefenseSolutions .

Some of the highlights we can talk about, meaning were fairly certain the deals are solid:

An expanded number of accounts with suppressor manufacturers.

TurtleSkin Gloves for officers – these offer the gold standard in needle stick and cut resistance.

Orders have been placed for Heizer DoubleTap’s.

We’ve secured TDS’s position with several of our current distributors and expanded/increased our presence with a couple more.

And the most exciting highlight is that TDS will be the East Coast distributor for VhitaVouri powders and Lapua ammunition.

Once the 60 pounds of literature gathered during the show arrive at the shop there will surely be a steady flow of new items. All in all a fairly productive show and a positive sign for the rest of the year.

Gun Laws: 2012

With 2012 being an election year, both republicans and democrats will be hesitant to alienate voters with new gun laws. So you shouldn’t expect the coming legislative sessions to produce any meaningful firearms regulation. But last year did see some changes concerning the use, purchase, and carry of firearms. Here’s a round up of what went on and how the legal landscape for guns had changed.

Most notable is Wisconsin’s approval of concealed carry permits that went into effect November 1. About two months later, as of December 28, the Wisconsin Department of Justice had received 64,832 applications for permits, which inundated the department and forced it to shanghai employees from other areas to review the applications and meet agency deadlines. Wisconsin became the 49^th state to issue CCW permits, leaving Illinois as the only state unwilling to let its citizens carry concealed.

In California, a law that went into effect the first week of January prohibits you from openly carrying an unloaded handgun. Openly carrying a loaded handgun in California has been illegal for some time, though the state does recognize CCW permits. The new law, however, has come under fire from citizens claiming the regulation is an illegal infringement of their Second Amendment rights. In protest of the new law, many residents vow to openly carry rifles and shotguns.

To that end, Eugene Volokh, an expert of gun laws and a professor at UCLA, Berkley, told CaliforniaWatch.org that, according to the Supreme Court’s decision in the case District of Columbia v. Heller, “the right to keep and bear arms includes a right not just to possess guns, but also to bear them in the sense of carry them.”

New York City is a fairly hostile environment for handguns. Mayor Bloomberg has been a staunch supporter of strict gun control and has worked hard to get illegal guns off the city’s streets. But a pair of recent gun charges against law-abiding citizens may generate some needed change for laws that, some feel, unjustly punish the law abiding.

And just to clarify, concealed carry permits in New York are offered at the discretion of the authorities. If you’re a law enforcement officer, you can secure a permit. If you can convince the authorities that it’s necessary for you to carry concealed—if, for instance, you’re in imminent danger or an owner of a large business—than you’re eligible. Also, the state does not recognize reciprocity of CCW permits, meaning if you have a CCW permit in another state, New York City will not recognize your privilege.

A medical student from Tennessee is the latest poster child for changing New York’s law. When Meredith Graves visited Ground Zero and saw the “No Guns Allowed” sign, she asked a nearby cop if there was a place to store her .32 Kel-Tec. She was then arrested and is potentially facing three and a half years in jail for illegally possessing a firearm in the city. Yes, she should have known the local laws, but even to government officials, the penalty seems misguided.

Peter Vallone (D-Queens), who served as assistant district attorney in Manhattan and is now chairman of the City Council’s Public Safety Committee, opposes a US House of Representatives bill that would require New York to recognize CCW permits from other states. But he wrote in an editorial for the New York Post that, “our carry laws are too strict… With cases like Meredith Graves we’re giving the rest of the country ammunition to force passage of the House bill. If that happens, we’ll truly have shot ourselves in the foot.”

Gun laws in New Hampshire are also on the ballot for change. Earlier this week, the House passed a bill that prevents restrictions on carrying a concealed gun in public places. Openly carrying a gun is legal in New Hampshire, but carrying concealed is restricted to the discretion of the publicly funded venue at issue, like a sports arena or hospital. The new law denies the venue its discretion and instead puts those places under the same regulations as they apply elsewhere in the state.

However, New Hampshire Governor John Lynch will almost certainly veto these changes to the law.

In Mississippi, a law passed last summer says that someone who has a CCW permit and takes an eight-hour NRA course can carry a concealed firearm just about anywhere they want—in courthouses, on school campuses, in bars. But the law has also spawned an argument between lawmakers and the Department of Public Safety. The Department is refusing to recognize any training undergone prior to the law’s passage in July. Neither has the Department approved any instructors or courses for such a privilege, according to WREG News of Memphis.

As of this summer, you can now carry concealed in Wyoming without a permit. Alaska, Arizona, and Vermont have similar regulations in place and don’t require a CCW permit to carry a gun in your jacket pocket.

Thoughts on 2012 and the like

Well, '11 is in the books and '12 is underway.
If the Mayans were right, it could be interesting. Personally I have plans to max out a credit card or two and if January '13 presents itself, blame it all on them - might work.

On the off chance that the whole EOTWAWKI (End Of The World As We Know It) EOW (End Of World) thing goes down with a whimper rather than a bang, we've picked up a line of Emergency Food. 25 year shelf life and it actually tastes like FOOD! Look for it to be up on the site fairly soon.

Were still running our "Shelf Lightener" sales and based on what were hearing about the manufacturers multi annual price increases, it might be worth a look at what we got listed there.

TDS has contracted, absorbed, made agreements with top builders, manufacturers and armorers and for 2012 is expanding the Services portion.
So far we haven't run into much we can't do at this point whether in house or through contract services.
Be it Glock repair, custom builds, or barrel threading for suppressors, TDS can get it done. Custom coatings will be available in-house soon.

For the local folks (NH) looking for Class 3, primarily suppressors, TDS is the place to go.

So that's the spiel on '12. There's more in the works and who knows what will come out of SHOT.

KSG Update

We've had an unusually large number of folks showing up with hundred dollar bills demanding multiples of the KSG. I'm growing weary of explaining that the KSG is "unobtanium"at this point. There are however several folks who honestly believe that I am unwilling to sell them one.

Hello from Kel-Tec!

We have been receiving an abnormally large number of calls pertaining specifically to seeing the KSG for sale on sites like Gunbroker.com.

The bottom line is this: they are hoaxes. Kel-Tec has not shipped any weapons that are allowed to be sold. Up until this point all weapons shipped are for testing and evaluation purposes only and any testers caught selling a testing weapon will be dealt with on our end.

We have personally investigated all instances of KSGs being sold online and have deemed them all to be untrue. We caution the public to be wary of these sales as they do not have the product to provide to the winner of these auctions.

When the KSG starts shipping to distributors for resale we will make an announcement here on the site to let everyone know.
